Recently, a large number of oysters appeared on the beach of Dahu in Shanwei, Guangdong, and many people rushed to the sea to pick them up. Videos shot by many netizens show that the beach is densely covered with oysters, and many people are picking them up. At night, there are still many people wearing headlamps and carrying buckets or bags to pick them up. Multiple video positioning shows that the place where oysters were collected was at Dahu Beach, Haifeng County, Shanwei City, Guangdong. Some netizens also said that they picked oysters at places such as Jinxiang Silver Beach in Lufeng City, Shanwei.
On May 30, Mr. Yu, a Shanwei citizen, told Jimu News that he had seen people picking up oysters at the local beach online in the past few days. At about 4 a.m. on the 30th, he and his friends drove to Dahu Pick it up near the beach. When they arrived, there were already one or two hundred people picking up the oysters at the scene, and some were transporting them by the truckload. The beach he saw covered with oysters was two to three hundred meters long. However, the oysters on the beach were of different sizes, and many of them were rotten. He and his friends picked through them, packed more than 100 kilograms in a bucket, and prepared to cook them themselves. Because there was too much sand, he had soaked the oysters in sea water and did not eat them yet.
Mr. Liu, a citizen of Shanwei, also said that after seeing the news, he went to Dahu Beach at about 1:00 pm on the 30th to pick up one or two hundred kilograms of oysters.
The local fishery department in Shanwei said, The relevant situation is currently unclear.
Staff from the Haifeng County Marine Comprehensive Law Enforcement Brigade said that it is still unclear why a large number of oysters appeared on the beach. There are many fishermen raising oysters near the beach in Dahu. It is possible that the farmed oysters were washed ashore by the sea. It is not yet known whether these oysters are safe to eat. It is recommended that citizens try not to eat them and they will report the relevant situation to their superiors.
